Backyard Bird Bungalow

Client: Little Passports

Work: Vector illustration, birdhouse pattern, stickers, map

Created for Little Passports, a direct-to-consumer children's brand that develops activities teaching kids geography, science, art, and more.

The bungalow comes with a birdhouse the user puts together, including stickers that they can decorate the exterior and interior with. The back is transparent, allowing it to be stuck onto a window so you can see the birds coming in and out.

Fifty fun and colorful birds were drawn and laid out on the back of the instructions in a large map of the United States, featuring common backyard birds from each state, allowing kids to learn about the many different species they may encounter.

The birdhouse feeder features an abstract pattern including several common backyard birds, consistent with the styling of the included stickers and map.

Stickers can be placed inside the birdhouse, giving it a cozy decor that any bird would want to live and eat in.

The back of the instructions includes a large map of the United States, featuring 50 common backyard birds. These simple yet colorful birds are housed between fun tree branch state outlines. Some of the challenges faced in this part of the project included using a limited color palette while still representing the species accurately; fitting them into the tight spaces of the Northeast, and laying out the oft-changing list of species names on the bottom.
